Finishing Horns

I've just spent a very educational, and large amount of time wading through the gamehead archives and searching to no avail. My question is how do you finish sheep horns, i.e. corsican, mouflon, big horn, etc.. Am I to assume because the subject doesn't seem to have been addressed in the past that it is not something that is done? I've used mop and glow on antlers to give them a dull finish.

If the horns are basically clean, I usually leave them as is, but when they are dirty I will also use mop and glow or any liquid wax to clean them up and leave that dull luster. One thing you need to avoid is any type of oil which will darken the color. Alot of people use liquid gold on deer antlers but avoid that on horns.

Good tip

Mix a 50/50 mix of white gas and linseed oil. wipe liberally and then wipe off. The white gas evaporates leaving a non-chalky sheen to the antlers. Darkens them just a bit, and my customers love it. Try it, you'll love it.
