Thinning Killer Glue?

Submitted by Tim on 3/28/01. ( ) 205.188.208.203

Okay, I just tried some Killer Glue. From what everyone says this is the stuff. To tell you the truth I didn't care for it much. It was too thick and hard to spread. It was like cold, cold molassass. I had a very haed time spreading it. I even warmed it some to try and make it more like syrup, I thought it would be more like that.
Can you thin killer glue or not? If you can't what is a good hide glue that I can use that spreads easily and evenly? Any help is appreciated. Thanx, Tim

Been there done that, switched to EPO-GRIP

I also have tried everything with Killer Glue, it aint the stuff in my book either. Tried several others, never liked Lock-Tite either, to runny.

The came EPO-GRIP Hide Adhesive. Yep it is the stuff, goes on like soft butter, ample working time, and hold like nothing I have ever seen. $55.00 for a 1 gallon unit, easy clean up. Try it I think you will like it too.

KILLER GLUE

Tim I had this same question a few weeks back posted on this forum. Someone recomended heat it up so I got a heat lamp and and set the glue in front of it for about 45 minutes and it worked great. I have never tried this EPO-GRIP but I do know that KILLER GLUE is by far the best I have ever used. Try heating both parts and see what happens. I have mounted four heads in the last week with stuff and once I put my detail in it was in for good. No pinning. Good luck.

45 minutes?

I have a 1 quart set of killer glue I bought last year and never used a drop of it because it was too thick to spread. As for how it works after setting it in front of a heat lamp for 45 minutes, I can't say. I can say this though, I have used the epo-grip and it works great and you dont have to set it in front of a heat lamp in order to get it soft enough to spread! I am not going to sit here and say that epo-grip works better than killer glue since I have never been able to try the killer glue, but I will say that there is no way killer glue works any better than epo-grip, AND you dont have to use a heat lamp to soften it up.

Try Lacquer Thinner

I TRY to be one of those people who doesn't say, "I told you so", but if I am, this is it. So I'll just answer Tim's question. Tim, when I first tried it, I had just what you have. I used 3 ounces of both sides and then I added 1/2 ounce of lacquer thinner. I had to mix it in very quickly and mix it until it got through the stringy stages. Use up what you have and then call Steve.

Killer glue sucks

I tried killer glue for the first time last week. I didn't like it either. It didn't hold like I thought it would. Works good on fish, but sucks for gameheads. From what I hear, EPO-GRIP is the best thing since the invention of soft toilet paper. Expensive though, but you get what you pay for.

KILLER GLUE REPLACEMENT

Replace the Killer Glue with the hide paste from WASCO, it's cheap and all you do is add water. Kinda looks like caramel! Works great!
