First off before anybody goes nuts, I work at a nature center and we recieve road killed hawks and owls all the time. We have obtained the legal papers stating that we may use them for display puposes and we frequently donate dead owls to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh for display. My question is how can I preserve the talons for display purposes? I'm hot a taxidermist, I'm a naturalist . Do I just cut them off and let dry in the positon I want, or do I have to add some chemicals to them? I want the scales left on and a little portion of the the leg feathers attached. Any help would be great, the displays are for the children that frequent the nature center. I'm sure I'm still going to get some complaints though. Thanks.
