I need some input please. I skinned, salted, rehydrated, pickled - worked a skife knife on it some at this point - and then degreased my raccoon skin. When I was rinsing out the degreasing agent I noticed that the skin still felt greasy and fatty. To me it appreaded that I didn't remove all the fat, but it did look very good job of removing the fat when I saltred it. When I used the skife on it I was seeing some hair roots throughout the skin. When do I know that I've gone far enough or not? Is this fatty looking tissue just the skin plumping up after the pickle or do I need to do more shaving? Also what problems will I have if left in the pickle too long - it's been about two days now. This fatty tissue is occuring mostly on the head and back of the neck skin. Can anyone give me a hand here please? Thanks, Andy.

Andy,
What are you using for a degreaser and also what for your pickle. usally if you keep the ph level in the recomended area the skin can stay in a pickle for months. try usind a wire wheel flesh from the tail to the head then degrease real well dont forget to nutrilize the skin after you are done with the pickle. try dawn dish soap to wash your skin with after you degrease it, because when you pull the skin out of the degreaser the skin still has oils on it that need to be rinsed off. I hope this helps, e mail me if you need more info.
