I have decided to try tanning with the Lutan F method, so far I have had good results, no slippage, etc..,but the question I have is after you have tanned the hide you must apply oil to the skin side. then if says after it soaks in let it dry hard for 2 to 3 days. then drum the cape and rehydrate and then mount. My question isdo you have to let it dry hard after you iol or can you let it sit for a day or two, drum them rehydrate and them mount? I have used one of the automatic tanners of my friends and i know you don't have to let it dry after you apply the oil, you never let it dry you mount as soon as it tans.We have had a LOT of rain in my area and I am having a very hard time getting the hides to dry completly in less than a week or so.... HELP....

Unless you want to dry it and keep it that way for storing purposes, until you're ready to mount it - Why not mount it wet? After tanning, oil it, allow the oil to sweat in for 3-4 hours, then tumble in some sawdust with a solvent added to clean up any oil splash, blow it off and mount it (or freeze it and mount it later). Howver, if you do want to dry it, then after oiling and sweating it in, hang it to dry hard. Later, when you're ready, you can rehydrate it and mount it the next day. It sounds like you may need a dehumidifier and fan in your shop to help drying.
I cannot imagine the tanning process and then having to wet the skin back. The capes with thaw very quickly following Bruce's method.
