i hav ebeen doing taxidemry for my friends and famil for 4 years now. I would like to start having business cards in sports shops and other locations to get more business. If i do this would i need to get salers permits and all that business end or can i still just do it has a hobby/ Thanx for the help

on where you live, You will need to check on state and local laws and
ordinances. Insurance companies will be a problem as well. If working
out of your home, Good luck finding coverage. Not only will most not
cover the business, some will drop the home-owners policy. If you are
going to do migratory birds( ducks, geese, doves etc) you will need a
federal permit. Before you open up shop, surf around in the archives
and check on some of the pricing posts. there is also some good business
advice in the archives.

Depending on where you live. Here in PA you cannot to taxidermy for anyone
other than yourself unless you have a license. By not "Jumping through the
necessary hoops" you open yourself up for some potential problems. It
will only take one disgruntled person to call a local zoning office, your
state revenue service(not just income tax but in some cases failure to
collect sales tax), and the IRS. I don't mean to scare you, and you may
never have a problem, but it was smart of you to ask, at least you are
aware of what could happen. The ultimate decision is up to you.
They should be able to help you through some of the red tape. And if you have sales tax in your state you need a sales tax number. And you might need to file for a DBA (doing business as) with your county, that is if your local zoning allows you to operate a business out of your home. And you might need a state taxidermy license depending on where you are. And if you are to do migratory birds you definately need a federal license. Good luck!
