Mini Flesher...

Submitted by Darrell on 5/21/01. ( dswalke2@yahoo.com ) 65.224.209.170

I have checked the archives but found only people arguning that the mini flesher is either great or a watse of time compared to the big fleshing machines, so please don't go there in this post.

I have just purchased a mini flesher and was surprised that it came with no instructions. I can make assumptions but would feel better if I had some video or prefessional advice on using it for the first time. I noticed in some of the archives, the guys at Buckeye Manakins use the mini flesher or so the posts say. If anyone of you guys read this please email me with some instructions or where I can get a video.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

They are really not that hard to use. When I bought one it also didn`t come with instructions so I got an old cape and just tried it.Surprisingly I didn`t put any holes in my first cape.loosen the three nuts and make sure guard is all the way down (towards the blade)and give it a try ,it shouldn`t cut deep enough at this setting to cut a hole just be careful and take your time.

Mini Flesher

I got mine about 2 years ago and tried it on an old cape. Boy did I hate it after that. Come to find out I wasn't using it right. What I did at first was to try to flesh the raw meat and it kept rolling over the meat and cutting thru the skin. I put it up and let it set for almost 2 years. I then decided I just can't let $200.00 set in my cabinet forever. I almost sold it. Then I got to thinking why not put some borax or DP on the skin to soak up the moisture then try to flesh it. DUH. You should have seen the mini-flesher tear thru fleshing a deer. WOW. I wouldn't think of selling it now. I wished I had thought of that when I bought it. So what I am trying to tell you is put something on your cape to soak up the moisture and let the flesher do the work for you. Don't give up on it because when you get it figured out you will like it. I can now flesh a deer cape in about 45 minutes and that includes splitting lips, splitting the eyes, and turning ears. Hope this helps. Scott

I have the instructions that originally came with mine. If you have a fax machine I'll send them to you. E-mail me and let me know.

Mini fleshers are the worst tool you could buy ! ! !

I made the mistake,

I was attracted because of the price. I realy tried to make it work. I finaly realised that a four inch blade can flesh only so much. Compared to a twelve in, (witch I finaly bought with my elk hunting money). You mini lovers, have you ever tried a real machine? Have you compared the amount of work you can get out of a twelve inch shaver?
Don't keep giving this boguss idea that mini's are made for poor taxidermists. Your lousing money.

Mini - Flesher Video

Darrell,
We at Buckeye Mannikins do use the mini flesher very much. And we do like it. But like everything else in this world, it has it's positive and negative things about it. Also we do have a big flesher also and I like it also. If you would contact me at Buckeye, I can send you a video on how to use it. I do not know why the fleshers do not come with instructions, but that is how we get them.
I myself flesh my capes "green" with nothing added to the cape. But some of the guys put salt on the cape while fleshing. If you are planning on using our Buckeye Supreme Hide Paste, DO NOT put any borax or dry preservative on the cape, it will react with our hide paste. If you have any other questions, feel free to give me a call at Buckeye, that's what we are there for. Thanks

Me too

I had trouble using the mini, until I got the video from Buckeye Mannikins.
Now I am well pleased with the mini Flesher. You'll have to decide for yourself, but the video
really helps
