Shaving After Cream Tanning

Submitted by Chad on 5/19/01. ( ) 205.188.208.72

Ok, I followed the directions. Now my question is.. can I still shave the hide after I have cream tanned it? Will shaving the hide remove the tanning cream or has it soaked in far enough that shaving thin with a skife knife will be ok?

Thanks to all who answered my cream tanning questions awhile back.

I always do some spot shaving after the tan in places that I didn't catch during the initial shaving. I especially like to work in close around the face and pedicels after the tan has been washed out and the cape is ready to mount. I also use shavings I gather at this time to repair any torn ears. Works great.

No Problem!

The Paint-on or Cream-on Tan should penetrate "all" the way through, so shaving shouldn't pose a problem. Like George mentioned, a certain amount of prepping the skin, or shaving it, is normal, and you shouldnt encounter any un-tanned spots. It should not merely be a "surface tan" type product, or it isnt a good product. Almost all of these type tans that I know of, competitors included, do penetrate, providing the user has followed the instructions.
