I have a hide that was done with liquid tan and is frozen. Can I soften this hide for a display skin by oiling and brreaking or will liquid tan only work for drying hides rock hard on mounted forms? Would like to use the hide for school lectures instead of mounting. Can I retan in another solution?

But oiling alone will not make it soft. The hide fibers needs to be broken. This can be done by hand by drawing it over a blunt edge, then sanded etc etc. If you check the arcives or hit the search button you will find more on how to soften your hide. Also check with Bruce Rittel, or Mark from Knobloch's the maker of liqua-tan on how you can soften the hide.
