mule deer cape measurement

I'm mounting a mule deer for the first time. I had the cape tanned
without being measured first. I have the tanned cape back now. Do
I have to rehydrate the cape first before I take the measurements
for the mannikin? If I do rehydrate it, will it hurt the cape to dry
out again while I order the mannikin? How accurate does the
measurements have to be and how close to the mannikin size should they
be? Any help and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, first off you need to rehydrate the hide. Do not let the hide dry out again,no reason for that. Just take the hide wrap it in a plastic bag and freeze it.

Now take you measurements and get it as close as possible as you can get. The neck measurements are the most important ones. Nose to eye youcan get away with 1/4 and have nothing to worry about. In general a mule deer nose to eye are right on the money with the manikins being made today.

Also I can see your a real biginner and I do hope you have some info on how to mount this like a book or a video. You should have this on hand. Also read the archives in the forum. They will answer more of your questions.
