I'm just in the process of mounting my first badger which i tanned with liqua tan and i notice that a thin layer of skin is coming off of the pads on the feet.
This skin was salt dried hard.
Was in the pickle for about a week with a ph of 1.5
I brushed the liqua tan on the skin, rolled it up and left it over night. I than gave it a quick wash with cold water and dish washing diwashing soap, rinsed it good and tumbled it. There is no slipping on any other part of the skin! The pads are intact except for this thin layer of skin that came off.
Have any of you ever had this happen? Did i do something wrong in the tanning process?
Any feed back would be appreciated. thank you.

Pat,
I have had the top layer of skin peel off of the pads on lots of different animals...from mountain lions and bears to bobcats and coyotes. I don't think there is a way to prevent it, but repairing it is not difficult.
Mix up some two-part epoxy (I use All Game) and cover the slipped area, blend the edges, then texture it accordingly (on raccoons you can texture the pads with your own palm...it works great and looks authentic!). After you paint it, you'll be the only one who knows you fixed it.
That skin coming off had me kinda worried that i was going to have some hair slip next. But that didn't happen! Thanks for the info.
