A friend gave me a black bear rug he just wants me to do the head, and he is going to do the rest.One thing is the hide is quite old but in good shape,but the head is stiff What is the best thing to soften the hide before mounting. Thanks Tom Hall

We don't know how old the hide is but chances are slim. I not recomend doing it if it's over 3 years and that's iffy also. You may want to try a small area to rehydrate it but becareful cause of acid swell. Make sure you have some salt in the water and give it try. The bad thing is it can fall apart!
