Coyote foot question

Submitted by Andy on 6/12/01. ( andy@gymopc.com ) 64.65.239.94

Working on first coyote and I've skinned the animal with the flat incision. I started my cut just behind the large foot pad on each foot - I like to try aand avoid cutting through the pad if possible. My problem is that I am having a hard time skinning out the smaller pads of the foot and the due claw pad. What is the best way to do this? Would it be wise to inject this pads? I am going to enter into competition with this mount so any help would be greatly accepted. Thanks, Andy.

Andy, Turn your feet all the way and remove bones, including toe bones. Remove dense fat from pad area with a scalpel and then follow up with a wire wheel. That will clean your feet up nicely. Rebuild your pads and toes with clay being careful not to over fill. Pull out your reference and look at it hard. Feet are very difficult to duplicate accuratly. Now all you have to do is babysit them for a couple of days. Change the position about a hundred times. Pull all your hair out. Cuss out loud. Stare at them for a couple hours to make sure they're not moving by themselves. Convince yourself that its just not worth it. And finally reposition them one more time, say #@*! it and place it where you can't see it til it drys.Thats my competition procedure. Good Luck! By the way, You have chosen a very difficult incision for a comp. mount. I usually make one incision on the belly and cut my form in half and possibly cut off the head at the shoulders and reattach after I get it in the skin. Depends on the position. Its hard to hide all that sewing for sure! Good Luck...Camp
