Just starting with small mammals and have a hair slippage question. Guy at work gave me 2 large squirrels he had in his freezer, I just started thawing them and noticed that some hair is coming out. Can I finish the thawing in a 50/50 denatured alcohol solution like I do with fish to stop the hair from coming out or is this a lost cause? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Save yourself some heartache. If the hair is slipping while thawing, chances are the specimens were not cared for properly before freezing. In my experience, squirrels hang onto their hair. You might try an alum bath to promote tightening of the folicles, but I would probably can the critters if they weren't unique in some way or another. Someone else may have a better idea, I have just never tried to salvage something that wasn't rare or unique.
