I've recently started painting fish and love airbrushing with laquer paint, but I'm having a heck of a time finding some sort of explosion proof ventilation. I paint in a small 10x10 room with two basement windows and usually run a fan from the outside to create a cross-draft. I need to deal with this situation before my next session obviously. I can't find any information on how to set up a system and where to acquire the supplies. PLEASE HELP?!?!?!

use attic fans. I face the same problem. I have to schedule my painint time for the morning when I can shut off the A/C and put a fan in the window to vent fumes. One idea I had was to build two plywood covers to go over the window wells and mount an attic fan on each to pull air out of the room. Leave the door upstairs open. Laquer fumes are heavier than air and settle, so they won't float into the rest of the house. Through trial and error, determine just how far to open the door upstairs to create a venturi effect. In any case, don't sit down there sucking up those fumes. Kinda bad for ya.
the fumes are THAT bad for you. Lisa's been using no ventilation for years and she's perfectly normal - LOL! (just kidding Lisa - PLEASE don't stalk me!) P.S. Disclaimer: For those of you who do not know me, I am just kidding. These fumes are NOT good for you.....
You could use a house fan, attic fan, heater blower,etc... But you would be living on borrowed time. All it takes is one spark from that fan to ignite laquer. It costs a little more, but invest in a explosion proof exhaust fan.You should be able to get one from your hardware or lumber yard. Then build yourself a paint booth. If you need some plans email me.
Industry spies say they are working on a new and affordable spray booth.
We have made the booth unit, it works very well changing the air in the box about 10 times a minute. It has a sealed motor, uses locally replaceable filters and is very quiet. The initial testing phase has been completed, with no problems. The air draft is uniform into the filter area with a very even pull of air. We have plans for some accessories to make it useable for gamehead finishing under way. Unfortunately we do not have a price available as yet. The unit will be portable and large enough for the majority of taxidermists work. If left to run it will change out all the air in a 10' X 10' with an 8 foot ceiling room in approxiately five minutes removing any residual drying odors in the room. We are planning the booth as a complete kit complete with ducting and vent housing. Just a few tools needed to assemble and install the through wall vent housing.
Why don't you just LOAD the shotgun, hand it to Lisa and point out the target on your forehead to her?!
I should increase my life insurance?
Don't be so shy about missing me!
