First thoughts are thanks to all of the skilled people who take time to respond to mine, and other rook's questions. I am very appreciative and it is not taken for granted. My question has to do with my first big game mount. I am not going into this totally blind but still very green. I was excited to see my first shipment of supplies come in today which included the form, airbrush, paints, and eyes. Waiting from another supplier for more stuff. Now to my question and even though this site is my favorite and full of information, this probably won't be the last so get use to the name Skinner. The antelope's eyes came back so dark that the only way I can see the pupil is to hold it up to the light. I'm not sure if this is normal or a factory defect. I got the eyes from a respected supplier, (starts with Van ends with Dykes) so it would suprise me if it were a defect. Any added pointers on 'lopes would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Skinner

..their (antelope's)eyes ARE dark, and you will also notice that once set in the form, and the cape is taxied into position, and everything is finished, they really look good! Have fun with your mount, and good luck!
cut a piece of thin tape [duct works best] and while shining a flashlight on the pupil place the tape strip over it. This way you can easily see the pupil alignment and you don't have to keep shining a light in the eyes to get them set right. When you're through setting them simply remove the tape strip
So the pupil goes parallel with the animals snout correct?
Hello there Skinner,
This is correct. The pupil will be horizontal, unless of course you're mounting a cat, dog,or many reptiles.I gues the very best advice that I can give you, and I'm sure most out there will agree with me on this, is to get reference material on the species that you're working on. Study it and study it well. Keep it by your side at all times buring your mounting stages as well as finishing. Reference material is a vary valuable tool!
With the use of this reference material, you'll also find that antelope do indeed have a very dark brown eye, moreso than a White Tail, although, I have seen many deer with this same dark brown quality, especialy in areas where they've live in and around heavy Cedar Swamps.
If I can ever be of assistence to you, give me a call at (1-800)843-3320 or e-mail me at this address and it would be my pleasure to help you out in any way that I can.Thats what I'm here for.
