i am mounting my first turkey.i have the strutting turkey video from rhineharts which includes a step after fleshing in which the turkey is submerged in a five gallon bucket of mineral spirits,i suppose to degrease. is this the most popular method or are there other options or new chemicals for this step. i hate to waste five gallons of mineral spirits.thanks for the help.

solvents

The good thing about solvents is that they are reusable.
(I prefer Colemans Fuel myself with obvious precautions heeded)....
If allowed to sit, fat and other stuff will settle to the bottom
of your container.
If you could rig a screen just above the bottom, this junk
will lay undisturbed for other specimens.
There's no reason why you could'nt use a tray type container..
just obviously rotate bird for total degreasing.

Stay AWAY from solvents

Look in the Archives. Things that go boom are BAD. The industrial soaps are ALSO REUSABLE so don't let that sway you. They don't leave residue on your feathers like solvents do. Solvents are nothing but trouble, especially when you try to dump them out.

They carry a great degreaser for birds. It's non toxic and safe for you to use. As for cost it's cheaper.
