Since I have never delt with elk before, I have a guestion for those with experince. I recieved a call last night from a person that raises elk for meat and the horns. He said that he has an old bull hide that he wants to sell. This animal was put down then sent to the BUTCHER, he case skinned the bull. Is this animal useless for a shoulder mount to learn on or is there any market for such. By the way it was slit from tail to chin. Thanks for input, Bob

Case skinning takes place on the rear of the back legs
and then "peeled" forward, guess I dont know why it was slit from
tail to chin or if it was even case skinned.
Though a more advanced taxidermist could stitch up the
throat cut (for an added expense)this would be a chore.
Why dont you practice your own tanning on the hide!?
