Has anyone tried the "Serious Sportsman Taxidermy for Beginners" set of books from WASCO? It looks like a good series for a beginner. I just wanted to make sure it was worth it before I order. I have not done anything related to taxidermy but I am itching to learn. I spend a lot of time wading through this site for info. I would like to try a mount a doe at the end of this next season. Will these booklets give me enough info to do this?

These books are nice if you just want to get your feet wet. If your only thinking about playing with deer then i would suggest getting one of the manuals that they sell for around 20 or 25 bucks. They go into the process a little more and have quite a bit more information than the booklet series.

they are great for someone who has never done any taxidermy work and wanting to learn. i would say to go for it.

Todd - Your situation sounds similar to mine. I started last year by ordering the WASCO set of booklets. The books give you the basics. I also bought the Breakthrough Whitetail book for somewhere around $20.00. That's a good book to have. I then bought the McKenzie videos on Fleshing and Tanning, Whitetail Mounting Basics and Whitetail Finishing. I wanted to learn the basics of mounting whitetails as well as the tanning process. I tanned the hides myself. So far I have mounted three deer and each successive deer has turned out better. I've done two does and a buck. I ordered the doe forms from McKenzie and Buckeye Mannikins. I would strongly recommend that you get some reference photos too. Good luck.
I recieve them and they help a lot. They are a lot of money but its worth it. they also have mount ideas.
