using water to split an ear

Just thought I'd relate a surprising (to me, but probably not to the veterans here) experience. I was skinning out a squirrel yesterday that had some freezerburn on the ears and feet and decided to plump them up a little with water to see if that would help. I started injecting some water into one ear slowly with a syringe, but my thumb slipped and instead of slowly, I wound up pushing down the plunger pretty fast and the water split the ear open about halfway, I was dubious, but sure enough, as I reached that section with my exacto blade, it was split! Anybody do this on purpose?

I wrote about it quite a while ago. It's in the archive.
