I accidently ripped a 1 and a half inch to 2 "cut in the back of a deer's right ear
with my ear openers. I just paid 45.00 for this deer doe. i was planning on using
bondo. is this still possible? Thanks in advanced.

Brandon,

You could call me a beginner, but here is what I have done when I make a big hole (which has happened frequently):

using a regular small sewing needle (not a cape needle), sew the hole on the inside skin of the ear with a light fishing line (I use 2 pound test), using a whip stitch---try to keep the stitches small, and do your best to keep the edges of the tear matched up so the hair will lay like normal. Before you put in your Bondo, dampen the hair side of the ear with a sponge and water so if any Bondo leaks out, it will not stick to the hair---keep a wire brush handy and brush it out of the hair if it leaks out. Shape the ear as normal, but keep using the sponge and brush on any Bondo leaking out until it has set up.

Remember, I am not a veteran, and there may be better ways of fixing this, but this is what has worked for me. I would like to see what others do in case there is a better way!

Good luck!

Rick

Same thing, but...

I also run a bead of zap a gap along the seam on the insidde of the ear. It's been offered many times here to also cover the repair site on the inside with a swatch of USED dryer sheet, i.e., Bounce. Be sure it's used so all the sticky stuff is gone from it.

heres what i do

i resently riped i BIG hole in a red deer ear when i was removing the cartlege and i got an easy way to fix it
no sewing required all you need is a dryer sheet and some super glue

cut a peice of dryer sheet about a 1/4 inch bigger on each side of the tear lay it on the ear and cover it with supper glue

its simple and it leaves no seam its like new skin

hope this helps Aaron

Don't touch

the bondo if it leaks out. Let it dry and then you can get it off or out of the hair much easier. Plus, you don't have to stand there for 20 minutes wiping and brushing. Just my 2 cents.
