First Bou

I've done a number of deer, but this will be my first caribou. It is my own so if something goes wrong, I have no one to explain it to. My question is simple and addressed to those with experience with caribou. Any words of wisdom or pieces of advice you would impart. Thanks in advance for any responses. They are all appreciated.

Watch the throat hair...

Don't overdo the shaving on the ventral side of the throat and neck.. The long hairs that comprise the "mane" will drop out for years after the fact if the butts are clipped during the shaving process. Go easy there. Other than that and the rubber lips, they are just big fuzzy deer.......lol....watch the forms, too, a few on the market are too wide in the muzzle to suit my taste.......The article in Breakthrough should get you through the process with no problems.

Wash Good

I did my first caribou this year, and found out that you really have to wash the cape thouroughly to remove all of the blood and dirt. The hair is very dense, and you think its clean but it seems like you can always get more dirt out.
