Boy that's a hard one to say. Each has it owns and what is best can be hard to say. You have to remember what I like may not be a product another likes. We all have our own reasons for liking a product or disliking them.

For me I like to pickle all my hides is Saftee-Acid. Now for my tans I choose two different ones. Liqua-tan and EZ-100 Which one is better tan the other? I can't tell you cause they work great and I just grap whatever I like to use that day. I've had great succes with them both. Others like Lutan, some like pastes I can go on and on. It becomes a personal choice you have to try them yourself to find out which one you would like best.

There is no full proof tan. Why? For many reasons. The biggest is how was the hide handled before you got it and how well did you treat that hide will always determine the quality of a hide.

Tanning

I use the same products as Frank for home tanning. The Liquid tan is more forgiving if you are straped for time. I tan with EZ-100 on weekends were you need at least 24 hours of soaking and oiling time. If your talking commerical tanneries there are dry and wet tans. Dry tanned capes are returned to you dry and soft which you rehydrate when your ready to mount or can be stored in a dry area until your ready . A wet tanned cape comes back damp and ready to mount. If not ready, freeze until you are. Shipping is more expensive with wet tanning and the hair may not shine as much as a dry tanned cape. You also tie up freezer space. All of the home tans come with good directions so follow them to limit problems......Paul
