Painting fish blanks

Submitted by John W. on 8/14/01. ( ) 205.188.209.167

I know this is probably gonna sound really dumb but since I am new at taxidermy it cant hurt. I was looking through my Breakthrough fish painting encyclopedia and saw some painting schedules for some skin mounted bluegill. My question is could I use the same paint colors on a reproduction fish or would I have to use different colors.

Thanks,
John

The only difference in a blank is that most will first paint a blank with a 50-50 mix of brown and black. From there you will scrub off lightly to show the scales. The mixture will stay in the crevices and make the repro like a dried skin fish. Now paint as normal.
