This may be a silly question, I am not sure.....are licenses needed for taxidermy? Do you have to have a city permit? If this is being done more of a hobby than a business are taxes involved? Please help me with these questions!

Yes, a license is needed and required. Contact your State DNR for a application to be sent to you. If DNR finds out and you do not have a license on hand you will be fined heavily. Any animals you have to mount in the freezer will be taken away also. Protect yourself and get a license right away.
If you are in N.Y. you don't need a license except federal to do migratory
game birds, But for deer, bear, etc. No license is required. I live in N.Y.
and was a bit mad at first when they stopped issuing a license to do
taxidermy work however since then I havent really seen any large amount of
shops opening because of it and as for a license in N.Y. it was a waste of time
in my opinion anyway. When I got my first license 20+ years ago the game warden
(En-Con Officer now) just stopped by the house and asked me a couple basic questions
and that was all there was to it. Not much point at all. I also had to register
with the county, and get a tax number. Just check your states rules, They're
probably all a little different just to keep us guessing. As far as a city permit
you should call the proper people to check on that part also.

I tried to contact the IL Dept of Natural Resources, but they have not responded...that's been awhile ago.
no in fla.
You are dealing with the Government. Get on the phone and call them. Every phone book I have has all the numbers in it and I am sure that the phone books in your area do too!
