Does anyone know of a electric scapel sharpner? Or a knife sharpner that will do a decent job on a scapel.I use so many that I hate throwing them away.I have tried medical supply places but they don't reuse them.

K,
This is one of those things contemplated by many, but in my opinion, it's a waste of precious time. At 35 cents a pop (some more/some less) and I use 3 per deer cape usually to cape out, another 4 to flesh out and another one to finish the mount, I'm less than $3 a job. It's easier to toss it and be SURE you blade is shaving sharp than take the hour or more that it would require to sharpen the 8 or 9 blades. If I charge $20 an hour for my work, then I lose $17 on sharpening what I could have tossed and replaced.
I run them over the sharpening steel I use to sharpen my knives with. When they get dull, a couple of passes over the steel and its as good as new. I was given the steel from an ex butcher, real good quality, puts a great edge back on. Blades dull fast on hides, adds five times to the life of the blade.
When you buy them at a show 18 centes to 24 is what you will pay. I spend about 100 bucks per year on scalpel blades, I am sure I would spend more than four hours sharpening.
it takes me longer to change the blade then it does to sharpen one.
ADAM WHAT ARE YOU USING TO SHARPEN?
$3.00 here and $3.00 there..... soon your way over $100.00 in materials for a deer, I think 1 blade for 2 deer is about right, quick sharpen them with a smooth stone, (about 2 to 10 seconds)then a little steel, ..lets not give all the money away!
