Trying to redo a coues deer mount ,want to know if I can rehydrate the cape and soften it again, To remount it?

Was the hide tanned or DP? If the hide was tanned then you can. Also how old is the hide? If it's a recent mount and you want to redo it fine but if it's been 3 yrs or more I would just get a new cape.
Use a salt solution of handful or two to a gallon of water. What your going to do is prevent acid swell. It takes some time and I hope you use hide paste and not an epoxy. If a epoxy was used forget it.
