I have been reading some previouse articals from the archives on tanneries. I have done two shoulder mounts and I have used DP on both and they are both still looking good. Any way I am interested in having a cape or two tanned commercially to expand my horizons.
when you turn the ears do you remove the cartalige compleatly, and on the nose do you remove all of the cartilege there. I invested in some books and a sally dahlmes video but the nose just was not covered good enough for me and the ears were just turned on one side. Can any one help.
Thanks Craig

The ears turn like a glove being turned inside out.
Pull them for earliners...
Leave em for bondo......
All the nose cartilage must be removed.
Doesnt get any easier than that!
Good Luck
Leave cartilage in. Tumbling at the tannery can blow out the ears, gets packed with sawdust. Just flesh off meat and fat, turn eyes, ears, nose and lips. Double salt, dry and send out. Thats it, you can remove ear and nose cartilage after tanning. Paul
That is a big help.
