I was reading my Breakthrough manual and realized my coon skin wasn't prime. It has black areas and when I fleshed it I reached the root of the hairs very easily. After washing it I noticed the hair was coming thru the skin side of the pelt. I've salted it down and it's drying
Do you think it's worth trying to mount?
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,
I did a large 'possum last year that had the hair coming through
the skin side of the hide. I salted 'till rock hard, rehydrated,
put in Saftee acid pickle, neutralized then Lutan-F tanned. Handle it
carefully and as long as it isn't a summer hide you should be okay.
When I did the 'possum mount some of the hair on the flanks was still sticking through the skin on the inside but the hide paste and complete drying held it just fine. This 'possum was fully furred but
the skin hadn't thickened up yet even though it was taken the first
week of December. Give it a shot. Good luck.
Glenn
Thanks Glenn I think I will. Good experience.
