I am painting with water based paints through an Aztec 470A, but can not get the paint to thin enough to stop my airbrush from clogging up every few minutes. What is to best way to thin water based paints?
Thanks,
Sean

Some use the wet look gloss as thinner, but water seems to work well for me.
I also use windex. it works as a flow medium too. but plain water works great for plain old thinning.

Hey George and JT are correct, and either water or windex will work fine. BUT, I used to use an AZTEC and the new model that came out 2 years ago and is til on the shelves in most stores is defective! It was recalled for this problem and being replaced by Testors, the parent company. This may not be the cause however but if after thinning with water and it still happens, call TESTORS. It will probably be That you have the model that was recalled.

I have tried two Aztec's and will never have another, I cannot get the detail from them, personally I dont think they are made for small detailing.
WATER or WINDEX or RETARDER is the only thing you can thin with, these are the ONLY items that will really thin the paint down to flow better.
GLOSS in not thinner, it is the same base the colors are made from, if you will use a auto painters viscoity gauge you will see.
You can add clear to make a semitranparent color when needed.
In my Tom Secton fish finishing manual it recomends isopropynol,(rubbing alcohol). And that is all I use to thin my water based paints. The only paint I personaly have trouble with is black,it seems to be stickier for some reason. The air brush I use is a double action paschee.
Thanks to all of you for the info.
