Smartass you should have called yourself LAZYASS. If you look up the stuff you want to know you will still have questions. At least then we can give you a little more advanced answers. Most of these stupid questions come from "beginners" who are just trying to cut their local taxidermist out of a job. I, for one, will not help take one of my friends out of business. Keep asking because ,as you can see, John and I are still ready to answer. It just might not be what you want to hear.

I try and try...

to come up with a question that hasn't been answered or asked or argued or whatever. It's hard to do. This site gets a bo-jillion hits a day and I've been ehre since it was a pup. sometimes we do get lazy and just by-pass the archives option. In reality, going to the archives is usually the best way to go, but the results can be overwhelming at times. True, if we stop asking questions, these guys won't have anyone to talk to, but I would hazard a guess that this is a cross they'd be happy to bear as well. Smartass, I've sat here quietly for about four years listening in on other folks' conversations and have learned an incredible bit of information. The specific tricks of the trade have vaulted me ahead of my guy-down-the-road by about a decade of trial and error. I just don't get why some folks get so bent out of shape when nobody just hands you the answer. One thing for sure, I won't sit here and shoot my gift horse in the head. Use your name, stand behind what you say, and quicherbichin. It gioves the rest of us a headache. For what it's worth, I (like a lot of these guys) know John personally and if all you get outta the deal is, as you say, pissin' and moanin', consider it an ass whoopin' you'll never see. Have a great day!

Everyone new who does not spend every free hour reading the archives is shorting themselves. There are leterally thousands of hours worth of experience in there from some really great taxidermist, some who do not even post here anymore. Its FREE so no reason not to use it

Dave

So someone tells you to go to the archives,Whats the big deal?
Do you want one answer to your question,or pages full of answers?
With all the crap going on in the world today your lucky to even have this much information.
I don't know these guys from Adam, but would welcome the chance to meet everyone of them someday. I'm sure they would tell you anything you want to know if you show the same respect that you demand.
It's time we stop treating this forum and profession like some kind of
hockey match. Most of us are here because we have the same passion as one another. How do you suppose this conversation looks to a true beginner who decides maybe
he don't want to get into this after all?

One reason I recommend the archives is.

There is more than ONE way to skin the cat, pickle it hide, tan and mount it listed in there.

JOhn Bellucci use to post here, he had some usefull info. I read the archives too, I know I have learned much from it. If all the old timers quit we would be back in the dark ages of taxidermy again. Oh by the way Jonas did have some very good books too.

I Use The Archives

This response submitted by Old Fart on 11/21/01. ( ) 64.122.32.182

I have been working my way back through the archives. There is too much useful information to let it go to waste. I keep a notebook here by the computer and I have about 8 pages full of names and numbers and email addresses. And I have not made it back through everything yet.

Me Too

Ditto to what Old Fart said . I've been taxidermy work for 12 years and still get some great info from the archives .

and if you play nice...

and not bash these experienced taxes that are here out of their own personal generosity, you might learn one of the most important lessons of all. They DO tell us a lot of very useful information here, but it's nothing compared to what all they really know. I've fostered friendships with several people I've met here and in doing so, I've been given the inside line on true trade secrets that just aren't covered here in this or any other forum. Read the postings, study the archives, e-mail the players directly and develop a friendship with them. When you find yourslef really stumped, you can write or call them directly and get the best answer firsthand. Better yet, if you consider everything you learn over time, you'll soon adapt a mindset that better allows you to seek out your own answers on your own. For example, I used to sweat so many of the minor steps in doing deer - cape too tight, etc.. Now, I've learned to have faith in my measurements to the extent that I know the cape will fit, and I just have to take a deep breath and seek out the solutuion in front of me. In any event, the owrst time to burn bridges is when you're standing in the middle of them. If you came here looking for help, it's here for the taking. Just don't rip the guy offering it when you don't get the answer you were seeking. Believe it or not, nearly everyone I've met here has been a decent person and I'm glad to be a part of this group. Thanks to all for four years of information.
