Opossum ears

Submitted by Bob Thomas on 11/26/01. ( rutjr@aol.com ) 64.12.96.104

Hi Everyone,
I just got an Opossum to add to my collection. Before I put it in the freezer I was looking it over and noticed how thin and delicate its ears were.
What do I do with them? Can I split and turn them? Or leave them as they are?
I looked in the archives and my Breakthrough manual and couldn't find anything.
What a cool animal I never really looked one over that close.
Any help would be appreciated.
Bob

Split That Atom!

Unfortunatly you must split them. It just takes time. I have found it best to use Sculpt-All in them for filler since you will have time to set the ears after you finish the face. If you do not split them they will curl and crack. Get a sharp scalple, you will need it. Good Luck, Alan (Outdoor Decor Taxidermy)

Thank you!

Thanks Alan, I kinda thought you would say that. I'll just take my time and be careful.
Thanks again,
Bob

I'd never EVER try to split a possum ear. I take an insulin needle, inject it with Preservz-It and card like a fish fin. Works EVERY TIME.

Thank you

Thank you George, I think I'll give your method a try. The ears are soooo delicate I think I'd probablly end up hacking them or my fingers up.
Thanks,
Bob
