GREY FOX PELT PROBLEMS

Submitted by S. WARREN on 11/27/01. ( ) 146.184.0.71

i JUST STATED MY FIRST GREY FOX PELT. i BOUGHT WASCO'C INSTRUCTION BOOKLETS AND THE SMALL MAMMAL KIT. i SALTED THE PELT FOR 24 HOURS THEN REPEATED AS INSTRUCTED. AFTER 48 HOURS OF SALTING THE PELY WAS NOT COMPLETELY DRY. I WENT AHEAD AND RINSED AND PLACED IT IN AN ACID BATH. IS THIS GOING TO BE A PROBLEM. THANKS ,

Too late to worry about it now.

Just finish the pickle and tan and see. Some skins take a while to dry, sometimes another salting is needed or maybe just let it dry with a fan on it. Next time, try and let it dry hard; it helps set the hair. Since the fox is in the pickle, keep an eye on your PH and tan as normal; if you got to the skin while it was fresh and it was fleshed well, my guess is that it's probably O.K. but fox are notorious for slipping. Good Luck.

Thanks Wava
