I have a problem with a bear hide i am tanning, I scraped, all the
meat and fat from the hide sanded it, and started braintanning. I
applied about fifty coats ,let dry and scraped in between coats. And
then rubbed out the hide and its still real stiff, any suggestions?

You sanded a raw ride?!
The key with brain tanning is to keep the fibers stretched while it's drying and you're rubbing it over a thick rope. A bear rug is an immense project for brain tanning, especially if you've not done it before. You might consider "chemical" tanning what you've got left or if you insist on continuing with the brain tanning, purchase a booklet entitled "Brain Tanning the Sioux Way" by Larry Belitz. Rittel's Tanning Supplies offers it on their website. You might also find it at a muzzleloader supply store.
