Mini?

I'm new at this and have a question- If mini handheld fleshers are so bad (acording to the arcives)why would the top taxidermy magazines all advertise them? Are they in it just to for the money? (to sell space in their magazines) I would think better of them wouldn't you? If they are no good why push them? thanks

I wont here, but I AM able to name at least a dozen products out there, as seen in advertisements in your trade mags, that I wouldnt use if you GAVE them to me. Junk, plain and simple. Of COURSE the magazine will run the ad, its ALL about money. The reason why the guy sells the product? Money. Magazines sell subscriptions to help costs, but advertising is what carries the load. They dont care nor should they as to what product works well or doesnt. NOW then, that having been said, the mini flesher DOES have a firm place in taxidermy, lots of guys just LOVE them. The answer you most likely saw was that, given the choice, most taxidermists in it for the long haul, would prefer the standard fleshing machine over the mini flesher, thats all.

I Use the Mini

I have used the mini flesher for 4 years now, and don't consider it junk.
Like Bill says, it has it's place and since I can't afford a larger fleshing machine,
I am more than satisfied with the job it does. I can thin a cape in 40 minutes ready to mount, and that beats a drawknife for me.
As for the Magazines, they are selling advertizing space, and it's not their place to decide whether some item or service is wrong for everyone.
You can buy an ad in Breakthrough whether you are a good taxidermist or not.

its all about....

personnal preference on this one paul.......i have been using a mini for years and no i dont use it exclusively but it definately has its place in my shop....when i started out i did use the mini exclusively and at the time i thought it was worth its weight in gold (when compared to a knife or scissors) with a little practice i've gotten to the point were i can shave any cape if not as quick then pretty darn close as any full size flesher, but once again its one of those things some people like some dont....not sure if this will help you but thought i would give you some possitive feed back
