How to mount folded legs

How do you mount the legs on forms that are laying or sitting down with the legs folded up? Whats the form prep? Do you have to do them in segegments, sew them up then fold them it place, then anchor to the body or what? Thanks Carl

Are you sure your ready to take on a task this big. To be honest if your not sure on how to go about a process like this I would hold off till you get a bit more experience in you.

To do the legs that is if you can't slip them on make a cut in them on the bottom side. This is the side that no one will see. Since your new and you sew seams may not be up to par I would cut them there.

As for the prep work, prep like any other life size mount. Make the releif cuts in the pit area so that you can tuck the excess skin in.

As to anchor the body there are many different ways on doing this. You should have some type of anchor bolt that should be placed in the body of the deer and then bolted to the form.

carve the legs

For one of my first life-size mounts I chose a marten form with folded legs. I simply carved out where the leg folded so that there was no foam connecting the thigh muscle to the calf muscle. It's hard to explain without actually seeing a picture, but basically I ended up with a leg I could get the skin wrapped all the way around. Sewing is the tricky part, my pelt was case skinned and so I had to sew completely down the back of the leg. I did this after putting the hide on the form. I don't know if this is the correct tecnique but it worked for me and the marten turned out very nice.
