Stinky wolves

Submitted by rob white on 12/16/01. ( ) 192.75.48.3

I and friends of mine all have timber wolf rugs hanging in our houses. They were all mounted by the same taxidermist. And they all stink...bad. Does anyone know why and can someone suggest a way to neutralize this smell. Smells like real bad socks!
thank you

Could it be a dry preserved and not degreased? You get what you pay for.

That's why I stick to fish. Our president sprayed Febreeze on a smelly deer cape at a seminar once and it smells pretty good now. It took about 3 days or so but after it dried. KABLAM! no rotten deer cape smell. I don't know why it was so damn smelly, but it was It was tanned and everything. I think he let it sweat too long.

Had the same problem

I had a customer of mine with the same problem. It had nothing to do with the process since two were done at the same time, same pinkle everything. The one thing I determined was different was where the two customers had them displayed. The problem hide was in a spare bedroom in the damp basement. As for fixing the problem I did as someonelse already suggested. Spray Febreeze, place on a drying rack for air circulation, place a dehumidifier near or under the rack and a fan blowing over the top. Check every couple days and respray as required. My problem hide took almost three weeks to dry. Good Luck!
