do your filling, backing, and fin work first, then seal.
Having read the Breakthrough BOOKS many times, myself I always seal the fish first. Then do the fin work.
Never tell you to seal before the fins are complete. Do everything first prior to applying your sealing coat. The next thing after the seal is applied will be your paint. Think about it. What are you going to do right after your fins are done? Seal the fish for painting. Why do it twice?
You dont just seal a fish strictly for painting purposes, eventhough it does give the paint a better surface to adhear to.Why would you need to seal your fin cream anyways.
You seal the fish BEFORE you do the fin work!
I'm going to back you up on this one John.

or fin creams will cause the fins to curl uncontrolibly.
I dont use fin cream cause that's exactly what happened. I found something much better. Can't use the fin backing material the catalogs sell either cause I do two sided fish so I can charge double! he!he! here again I found something better. But whatever works for you and it's obvious both ways work and I have respect for John C. and you can always count on his advice. I know I do !
