I have a question about removing the old salt from a cape after the first 24 hours. Most everything I've read says to "shake" off the salt then resalt. My question is, do I simply shake off the loose, excess salt leaving the salt that is stuck or should I use a brush and remove the old salt? Even by shaking hard there is always a lot of old salt left. Thanks very much for your help.

a few times and resalt it. you want the salt to adhere and what falls off,falls off. Just resalt and hang to dry.
