refreezing thawed birds

Submitted by gregg wheeler on 12/19/01. ( ) 12.2.110.197

I had a canvasback and an already skinned blue grouse accidently removed from the freezer, and left at room temp for 24 hrs. Needless to say they are thawed out. Trouble is,I can't start on them for two days. Can I re-freeze them or should I store in the fridge until I can deal with them in 48 hours? Any help greatly appreciated, GW.

Go ahead and refreeze the Gregg. If you're realy nervous about the Can, skin him out and refreeze. He'll freeze quicker. But your not going to have a problem.

Have a great day to all,
Dave

If your frige is cold enough to keep beer they will be fine for up to a week with no problems.

If they have been out for 24 hrs, the bacteria will be growing terribly fast. in the freezer It would stop this processs a lot better that in fridge. In one week they would be bad. feathers would start to pull out very easy.
I would skin the can out and them put in freezer. They also thaw faster.
