Liscense to do taxidermy?

Do I need a liscense to do (or sell) taxidermy?

I know it depends on the state and what you are mounting, so let me tell you.. I live in North Carolina and I am primarily interested in small mammal mounting (coons, foxes, etc. etc.), so I don't need to know about bird laws or anything.

Do I need some sort of liscense for this?

Hello Amy,
If your going to do it for a profit, I will tell you YES, you do need to be licensed. But, as I dont know your state laws, it would be your responsibility to check your local laws. I needed to be licensed in Michigan, and now living in S.Dakota, I had to get licensed here as well.Call your game department. It should be listed with the Capitol of your state. This is when you'll get the correct nformation.

Have a good day,
Dave

As we use to say in the Marines "Cover your A$$". If your state does require a license for taxidermy, buy it anyway. If you are selling any specimans, they will view it as "For a profit" regardless of whether you make anything on it anyway. This way you are on the right side of the law and wont have to prove you sold it at cost without profit. States get real nervous when they think something is due them (Taxes) and dont receive it.
