I plan to mount my first Whitetail shoulder mount, this week end. I want to use epo-grip on the mount, but I worry that if I make any mistakes, and repairs are needed I won't be able to fix. Thinking of using a dextrine hide paste on the first couple, and then going to epo products.I would like to start with the best, but not sure of my ability. Have done lots of studying and purchased ref. pictures. If I use the epoxy is 5 hours plenty of time for a newbie?

Once you build your skills and speed, then make the switch. Just dont pull and pull the hide off the back of the form and dextrine will work, for you. You are going to need 3 or 4 days to make your adjustments the first several deer. so go slow and enjoy the learning procces.
I will take your advice, mount a few, and then get a GRIP! Just have to order differnt hide paste, and oh yes hide nails. Looks like not going to mount this weekend.
Hello Jamie,
Im not as experienced as some of these guys, but I would use Buckeye Supreme. It allows for plenty of working time and is a more "user friendly". The first few mounts that you do will be learning experiences...no matter how they turn out! It takes alot of mounts to learn proper anatomy, hair patterns, and eye nose ear detail. And once you think you have it....suprise, You will learn something new and better. Buckeye Supreme allows for xtra adjusting time and can be rehydrated. I have tried epo-grip...but always go back to Buckeye Supreme. Remember...a properly fitted cape will hold with any good, quality adhesive. Learn the process first and then worry about the different products (only then you can make the proper assessments). Have fun!
Mike, I will try Buckeye on my first few, if I can find it. I have to order something anyway. Do you lots of hide nails with buckeye, don't mind but just want to do it correctly.
Buckeye Supreme sticks well enough that if the hide fits, you won't need to nail.
It won't hurt to nail...some guys do. Your preference
I have used Buckeye Hide Paste Supreme for years with great results. I used two part epoxies for years before. I personally don't like the sticky mess of epoxies. BHS is a water based adhessive and washes up easily. Plus, I can adjust my deer for a day or two after mounting. With epoxies, it better be set before you close your shop door for the evening. Good Luck
