Seems like a LOT of newbies on here again so after an earlier post I thought I better post this. DO NOT USE LYSOL AS A BACTERIACIDE ANYMORE! It will NOT work AND will raise your ph and cause slippage. In the last couple years, the effective ingrediant in LYSOL was removed by OSHA or whatever. It is no longer good for hides or pelts. You can still use it on fish skins if you like.
PS-Use a good bacteria like Basacryl NBKU. Works great! Call knoblach's for info.

That possibly explains why the hair slipped on a couple of rabbits I did.
Thanks for the update.

I know because I have posted it many times.
You mean this is in the ARCHIVES?
I love seeing the humor from you guys. Actually, I dont see the need for ANY bacteriacide in a pickle. Kinda defeats the purpose, Id say, as the pickle IS what retards the bacteria...
The main ingredient in old lysol was a phenol. You can buy Phenol from the drug store.

I use lysol to inhibit mold growth and I use it in the rehydration process. I remount alot of mounts that others have done, as well as some of my own. I see mold in almost every mount I have diasembled.
When I use a little lysol the mold tends to stay away. If you mix your own hide paste, put a little in that as well. I also use no Bactricide in pickle as this is unnessesary. I only use it to wash skins before I pickle. A little alcohol poured on fur will accomplish the same thing if skin is questionable. I pour alcohol on the belly fur of bobcats and foxes when they have been shot with shotguns as they usually puncher the stomach and Intestins and release bacteria on to the belly fur. I do this befor skinnig. i then proceed with salting and so forth.
