Hanging Pheasant Above Fireplace?

Submitted by phunter on 12/26/01. ( ) 63.49.193.127

Not a taxidermist, but I just received back a pheasant I had shot from my local shop. Is it OK to hang it above a gas fireplace to show it off? Or is it not recomended?(can things dry out or melt) Really don't want to ruin this mount. Thanks.

No Good

No good by a working fireplace. The heat will cause skin to dry out and crack and the dust is bad. I only put my mounts above fireplace during the non burning season. Also damp is bad, like a wet or damp basement.

Gas fireplace should be ok.

Little real heat is produced from a gas fireplace, so it should be fine, although there is that mentioned chance. You may want to place it off to one side. On the other hand if it was my Granddads fire place I gaurentold ya it would have the feathers burnt off.

dont worry
