Proper way to skin whitetail nose

Submitted by Terri on 12/31/01. ( teto@freeway.net ) 216.93.114.83

What is the proper way to skin out the nose of a whitetail deer? How much of the cartilage do you leave? I have already checked the archives and didn't see anything on this subject. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Terri

...get it all out down to the bare skin.......
no good way to describe the process.......just have to
peel it out!

Anything less than the thin skin is wrong.

The pad should be almost black even past the little cross-hatched tendon, the thinner the skin the easier the mount. When done correctly you will have interior nostral skin about 1 1/2 inches in length.
