I have mounted about 20 deer and have had good results, BUT I have ran in to trouble. I mounted two deer shoulder mounts last Friday and one of them is just like all the rest, ok. The other on the other hand has hair slippage in the neck area, the face is ok. The hair comes out with very little effort at all, grap and gently pull and you have 15 to 20 hairs between your fingers. The only differant between the two deer is that one was frozen, { the one that slips}and the other one I got fresh. What I need to know is there anything I can do to tighten up the hair or is it trash. Thanks Bob, P.S. I have a fan on it now and plan on it for a few days.

First off how was it handled? How did you recieve it and then how did you take care of it. Next are you using DP or did you tan it? Give us more info and we can better service to you.
I was experimenting with the same problem. I took 1/2latex siliconised caulking clear,1/2 water, to thin it. turn the head upside down, use a large syringe and slowly inject the watery glue at the base of the hair, so it runs through the problem area. it takes about a day to dry, but seams to work.
hope this helps,
Dan
I used Rinehart cream tan to tan the capes. The capes did not go through an acid bath as the directions do not call for one. I now know better. and the capes were handled in this way. Thawed, flashed, turned, salted twice, rehydrated in water only, {cold water} washed in dawn dish washing det, and rinsed and hung to drip dry, then cream tan applyed over night 12 hrs, then washed again, drip dryed and mounted. Sometimes the hair may take a few days to set or tighten. It will most likely be fine IF you leave it alone.
Sounds like its soaking wet when your mounting it. This causes the epiderms to loosen up and causes hair to come out. You have to tumble or at least towel out the excess moisture before you mount. Double salting hard, pickling, shaving then washing and tanning are your best shot at home tanning. You need a bacteriacide in your rehydration bath also or slippage could occure...Paul
Thanks for your sugestions.. Bob
