Hi,
Im looking for any advice on my first caribou. A couple of questions-
Eye to Nose measurements - I dont have Calipers, what can I use?
How much shaving is necessary? - They say they are pretty thin skinned animals.
Im using a Winter Cape (Just shot it yesterday, antlers have already fallen off & I will use other antlers from a bull I shot this fall) Does it make a difference?
Thanks for all the help.

1. eye -nose measure with tape measure...from inner corner of eye to end off nose.
2. thinned skinned true and easy to cut because of density of hair acting like a spunge. But must flesh...no need to shave.
3. Will not make much difference as long as antler pedicals are near to same size as your alters. Also can trim some skin off, after tanning is not exactly same size. ( I would not put a large rack on a small cape-- that's all.) Good luck.
Make sure you get plenty of reference photos and study the head before you skin it. The upper lip area is particularily tricky to mount, some lip must be exposed but not too much or it will look like it is trying to kiss you. Other than that it is no different than any antlered animal. Note: before you apply your skin try to get the headform/antlers through the door if it does not fit you will have to peg at least one antler. Enjoy!
