how long does it take a professional to flesh cape? What tools are normally used? How much thinning of the hide is necessary before mounting? Which areas are important to thin?

Hi Larry,

Good question because it permits me to tel it as it is. A very good fleshing machine operator using a 12 inch blade wich has been used in the industry for more than 50 years, can flesh a complete white tail deer cape in less than 15 min. that includes the finishing of the eyes , nostrils and lips. Most part time operator can do the job in 30 min. Some say they are satisfied with there smaler blade machines and dooing the work in an hour or more. Lets be serious, time is money

What depth of cut? You should stop in the bleu, in other words before you see the hair roots. It's always wise to use two passes and be safe compared to the agrissive shaver that makes holes.

The important parts to shave are the thicker ones, back of neck, forehead, the idea is to keep the minimum of skin, a nice flat fleshing job, know skuff marks, no lumps. Tanning cream over night and this skin will strech more than it's original measurments. Don't make the mistake of over stretching.
