I'm interested in entering a competition this
year to see what needs to be improved on my deer
mounts. Ive mounted my first deer head, it
turned out pretty good for a first timer.
I'm now working on my second.
I was thinking now is the best time
to enter, and fix any problem area before
i pick up some bad habit that will take years to correct.
now for the question>>>
can I enter a wall mount or does it have to
be a pedistal mount, and does there have to
be habitat attached to the mount.
All I want from this is to know what I need
to improve upon so I can start to do some for other people
Thank you all

This is not to knock you or anything but if your state allows it place it in the professional division. They critique you a bit harder there. This is only if you really want to learn what you did or didn't do right. Do go there and expect a ribbon or anything just the experence would be awesome. Be prepared to be disapointed or maybe not, but your asking one person to judge your work. When your there and you meet people try to get to know them, see your president and ask him for his personal thought or other well known taxidermist. Write them down and use this with the judging sheet. This way you will have more than one opinion here and you can go from there. Also see all the seminars they have on mounting anything it will help.
Go there and have fun! When all is done maybe you can find a guy that may even help you out on the side.
dave, if you have visited other local taxidermists shops and seen thier work, then you know somewhat where you stand. they may be more than willing to tell you whats wrong with your work and may even tell you whats good about it. you could even submit some photos to this forum and get a "pre-judging" prior to going to a competition.
