Could some explain to me how to turn eyelids on a coyote. It doesn't seem like their enough there to turn or maybe I'm not looking right. Thanks for the help.

Eye lids

As you skin out the head of a critter when you reach the eyes : If you try to save LOTS of eye lid--more than you need for sure, you end up with this tissue being very obvious inside the animal's skin. To split the eye lid is not too difficult as there is more than you need and it is thicker back where you cut the skin away from the eye sockets. Start there and as you split the lid traveling toward the eye lash area it becomes a little thinner. Go carefully till the lid is split completely upper and lower. Applying salt to the eye lid helps to "toughen "the tissue a bit helping the knife to get a grip and of course a sharp blade is a must. The eye lid skin is then trimmed back to a length suitable for tucking. After doing the process a good bit it becomes quite easy and you probably would not try to save much extra eye lid skin but having extra is a good way to learn. If you intend to tan the skin you can split the lids mostly and finish the detail work after tanning when the skin is easier to split. Good luck, A H
